Playing cards has become as synonymous with the magician as hats, rabbits, and bad tuxedos once were (and sometimes still are). Brian Miller is your instructor: a world class sleight of hand magician whose work has consistently won adoring praise from both the general public and the magic community. He holds a regular engagement at Foxwoods Resort Casino, and was recently 1 of only 25 college entertainers from across the country invited to showcase at the NACA Mid Atlantic Festival. Ken Maynard of the Society of American Magicians commented, "Brian elevates our art to a very high standard."
In this session, Brian will give you a comprehensive introduction to sleight of hand magic with an ordinary deck of playing cards. You will learn everything from proper handling of a deck of cards, to basic shuffling and cutting techniques, to classical sleights and new contemporary techniques. You will learn many complete card tricks and develop the tools to continuing learning well beyond the scope of these lessons. Brian endorses a holistic approach to teaching magic. He believes a student should learn the sleight of hand techniques as well as the philosophy and psychology behind magic, and performance techniques such as presentation, routining, rhythm, timing, and more.
Classes run 14 weeks and include decks of cards and the book Royal Road to Card Magic.
Brian Miller is an entertainer known for having a stand-up comic's perspective on the art of magic, referring to what he does as a parody of himself as a magician. He also has obnoxiously large eyebrows, to which he credits his success as a magician: "I never had to learn misdirection. My eyebrows do that for me."
Miller is an internationally recognized author and creator of original magical ideas. He recently filmed two DVDs with Mental Playground Productions set for the worldwide release: Approaching Classic Problems with Brian Miller, and The Oops! Deck Vol 2. He was featured in the February 2010 edition of Genii magazine in the legendary Magicana section.
